AFTER

Built by the Jesuits in the 17th century, the church of Batopilas unfortunately lost much of its history due to two fires in the historical archive, so only a few documents have been preserved.

The town of Batopilas, in addition to its natural beauty, was distinguished by its abundance of silver. It was intensely exploited before and during Mexico’s Independence, which attracted numerous people who settled in the area, amazed by the wealth that gleamed on its hillsides.

At first, the walls and the ground were reinforced with river stone, along with site cleaning, material hauling, and profiling on the slopes. The process also included excavation of the pit and its coating, lime slaking, and the installation of scaffolding on the tower.

The surrounding vegetation was removed, as well as the cement plaster.

A physical inspection of the temple was carried out to identify the work to be undertaken over the following months. Contact was established with the master builder in charge of the project to review the tasks to be carried out in the temple.

The tasks to be carried out during the project were agreed upon and signed by mutual consent of the four responsible parties present at that moment (Master Builder, President Jesús Hernández, Architect Antonio Guerrero, and Architect Federico Hernández).
